There are nearly 4,000 degree-granting institutions of higher education in the United States alone. Approximately 1,600 of those are private, nonprofit colleges and universities and about 900 of these campuses are self-defined as "religiously affiliated." However, only 102 intentionally Christ-centered institutions in the U.S. have qualified for membership in the Council for Christian College & Universities (CCCU).
The CCCU is a higher education association of 174 intentionally Christ-centered institutions around the world. There are 105 member campuses in North America and all are fully accredited, comprehensive colleges and universities with curricula rooted in the arts and sciences. In addition, 69 affiliate campuses from 24 countries are part of the CCCU. The council's mission is to advance the cause of Christ-centered higher education and to help its institutions transform lives by faithfully relating scholarship and service to biblical truth.
With a $10.5-million budget, 65 employees, and hundreds of volunteer leaders, the CCCU provides over 100 programs and services to fulfill the association's mission and to meet the needs of Christian colleges and universities. Among the services are professional development conferences for trustees, administrators, faculty, and staff; research on trends affecting Christian higher education; public relations, including government and media relations; collaborative marketing efforts; publications and other resources; and eight off-campus study semester programs, two off-campus study summer programs, and two international semester-long partner programs which involve about 600 students each year.
