Application Process:

The application process is different for each college. Some applications are completed online, some are written and some require extra components like interviews and letters of recommendation. Schools generally charge application fees, which widely vary.

Overall, there are five major parts of the typical application. First, basic questions include general information about you, including your name, contact information and activities. Some applications will ask for a resume or list of activities and awards. The school may ask for your intended major or church background.

Next, essay questions show admissions counselors you can think for yourself and put thoughts into cohesive paragraphs. Questions may be about spiritual, academic or goal-oriented topics. Other questions may leave more room for interpretation — they may ask you to write about something important to you.

The third part includes recommendations written by references. References are people who know you well, but are not related to you. Pastors, teachers, volunteer or work supervisors and guidance counselors make good references. Make sure to ask your references' permission to use their name on your application before you send it. Let them know where you are applying, what you plan to do while in college and what you've been involved in during high school (if they don't already know this information). This will help them write a great letter of recommendation or answer questions thoroughly. Give references at least a week to complete recommendations.

Transcripts are another must when completing applications. These records of your high school career must be signed and sealed by your high school (and only opened by the college) to be "official" and acceptable.

Finally, code of conduct agreements are common at Christian colleges. They include a description of belief and lifestyle expectations of the college. You must read and sign this section before sending in the application. This confirms that you are willing to live by the standards of the school you attend.

Finally, make sure to allow plenty of time to complete the application and collect all the required materials like transcripts and letters of recommendation if necessary. Create a checklist to see if you have everything you need to send with the application. Check the school's deadlines and application procedures. Each school accepts students at different times during the year. Some schools will review your application once, and others will keep it in the rotation until all the open slots are filled.
